Abma’s hayride and pumpkin picking events run on Saturdays, holidays, and select weekdays, and reservations are required. The pumpkin patch is only reachable by hayride, and the petting zoo is now ticketed separately, so you can build the visit around your family. If you have a stroller, you can park it at the loading area during the ride. Kicking off the season, Abma’s Autumn Bash on September 26 adds live music, face painting, cider donuts, and seasonal beer from Bolero Snort. In October, Spooky Storytime brings a nighttime hayride to a bonfire for select evenings.

Ward’s has been a family-run Ridgewood tradition since 1940. It’s a roadside farmstand patch on Route 17 North, directly opposite the Ridgewood Park and Ride, with pumpkins in every size, specialty gourds, winter squash, cornstalks, haystacks, and Indian corn. The farm’s variety list includes Cinderella, Big Max, and Jack-Be-Little pumpkins, plus their famous painted pumpkins. There’s no cost to enter the patch, and no reservations or tickets are required. Ward’s accepts cash, check, debit, or credit, and dogs are welcome on a leash.
One local tip: the driveway turn comes up quickly. Heading north on Route 17, the entrance is the second driveway after the West Saddle River exit, right before the “Ward’s Farm” sign.
